How care works where you live
LCH Care is an introductory agency, so there is no local branch to visit. We match families with checked, self-employed carers, you speak to carers by phone or video call before you choose, and your carer comes to you. Availability depends on carers near you, and we will tell you honestly what we can offer.
Paying for care differs by nation
- In England, the council's needs assessment is free, and people with savings over £23,250 usually pay for their own care; the home is not counted when care is at home (NHS).
- In Scotland, personal care from the council is free if the care needs assessment shows it is needed, whatever the person's age, income or savings, and NHS nursing care at home is free; the council may charge for other help, such as housework (mygov.scot).
- In Wales, the most a council can currently charge for care and support at home is £100 a week, after a financial assessment (GOV.WALES).
- In Northern Ireland, the local Health and Social Care Trust assesses care needs and can offer direct payments, so families can arrange care themselves (nidirect).
Rules checked against GOV.UK, the NHS, mygov.scot, GOV.WALES and nidirect in October 2026.
